Summer: How to Keep Your Garden Healthy & Hydrated

2021-03-17T16:18:39.621Z

Summer has officially arrived, and your garden probably looks magnificent by now. While plants, fruits and vegetables thrive when the sun is shining, too much heat can cause them serious damage.

The obvious answer to keeping your garden green and healthy is to give it more water. But not everyone has the time or money to hose down their plants every day.

Unfortunately, Less Mess can’t control the weather for you, but we can offer some tips on how to keep your garden hydrated during those steamy summer months.

Use Mulch

Mulch is excellent for providing coverage around trees, shrubs and flower gardens, but it also helps maintain the moisture level around your plants. Mulch acts like a shield by insulating soil in hot temperatures, keeping your garden cool and happy.

Less Mess carries a wide variety of Mulch for all of your landscaping and gardening needs. Best of all, we will deliver a pre-packed re-sealable bag right to your door.

Have Longer, but Less Frequent, Watering Sessions

If your soil looks dry, giving it a quick watering won’t be nearly as effective as letting the water soak into the ground. Less frequent, deeper watering is better because it allows the water to reach plant roots as well as the soil. Consider using a sprinkler if your lawn needs a little H2O.

Get Rid of Weeds

Weeding can be a nuisance, but it’s important to get rid of weeds because they will steal the water and nutrients intended for your plants.

Wait for the Perfect Time

If the sun is shining bright and you can feel the heat, it’s not a good time to water your garden. Take out the hose early in the morning or during the evening, so that water doesn’t evaporate as quickly.

Add Compost

Compost absorbs water quickly and helps keeping plants healthy during dry spells. Less Mess offers a premium blend of nutrient-rich Compost that not only aids with hydration, but also improves the structure, aeration and overall health of soil, resulting in better long-term success for your garden.

Apply some of these practices (and hope for a bit of rain), and your garden should remain bright and beautiful all summer long.
